Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has shared a deeply emotional moment from her cancer journey — breaking down in tears as her loved ones helped shave her head amid her ongoing treatment for breast cancer. 

The 32-year-old dancer, known for her radiant smile and fearless performances, posted the heart-wrenching video to Instagram, calling it “the hardest step so far” since her diagnosis in May.

“This too shall pass,” Amy wrote alongside the footage. “Taking control — the hardest step so far. I tried my best to save it.”

Surrounded by her supportive family, Amy is seen bravely cutting away her long hair before they gently take over, comforting her as she struggles to hold back tears. 

 “It’s Only Hair… But It Felt Like Losing Myself”

In her emotional caption, Amy opened up about the toll her illness has taken — both physically and mentally.

“I know it’s only hair,” she wrote, “but these past few months I’ve had so much taken away from me that I stopped feeling like Amy.”

The BBC star admitted she had clung to hope that she could keep her hair, despite dreading the pain of “waking up to shredding every day.”

“I’ve not been able to take control of this journey so far,” she continued, “but with my loved ones beside me, I finally found the courage.”

 Finding Strength and Hope Again 

Though the moment was painful, Amy explained that it also marked a turning point in her battle — one where she began focusing on recovery and self-love.

“It’s going to take time to get used to and learn to love and embrace,” she wrote, “but I’m now focusing not on the hair I’m losing, but the hair I’ll grow back — and the happy, tea-loving, fast-talking dancer who’s still there inside, with or without hair.”

She also revealed she has reached the halfway mark of her chemotherapy, feeling “empowered and positive” after finally confronting the part of her journey she once feared the most. 

“Since taking control, I can see the finish line,” Amy shared. “This was a hurdle I couldn’t even think about — but I did it. I’ve crossed the halfway chemo line.”

 A Message of Strength to Others

Amy ended her post by sending a message of encouragement to others fighting their own battles:

“To everyone on their own journey — whatever that may be — I’m sending love, power, strength, and courage. I found mine for this step, and I’m proud.”
