Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden marked World Cancer Day with an emotional tribute to those who saved and supported her through breast cancer treatment

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped her through her battle with breast cancer. The 35 year old Welsh dancer has been open about her cancer journey on social media since her diagnosis in 2023, sharing her experiences of chemotherapy and undergoing two mastectomies, with the latest operation carried out in November.

To mark World Cancer Day on Wednesday, February 4, she posted a moving video on Instagram featuring footage of her hospital treatment, the loss of her hair, and her triumphant return to the Strictly ballroom.

She wrote: “Supporting those living with cancer, those supporting their loved one’s affected by cancer, admiring the survivors, honoring those we have lost, and never, ever GIVING UP.

“Please check yourself and if you notice any changes with your body or how you feel please book an apt with your GP!

“Forever grateful to the Drs, nurses, paramedics, NHS, researchers, volunteers, charities and to all those individuals who have helped and supported me!” For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter

Dowden went on to reflect on the moment she received her diagnosis and how it fundamentally changed her life.

She added: “I’m so grateful to those above who saved me, made me stronger and even more determined!”.

The dancer highlighted the progress she has made and her unwavering commitment to becoming the best version of herself.

She also paid tribute to the late cancer campaigner Nicky Newman, who encouraged people to “go grab life”.

Dowden expressed: “Welsh love to all those affected by cancer especially those finding today tough!”.

Many of Amy’s castmates showed their support for the dancer in the comments. Oti Mabuse shared, “Strong girl.” and Julian Caillon commented,”You’re amazing.”

Breast Cancer Now also added: “Thank you for so bravely sharing your journey every step of the way Amy, you have helped so many people by spreading such important awareness.”

Tenovus also said: “Thank you for always using your voice to raise awareness, Amy. Your strength and determination inspires so many people. We’re honoured to have you as our Patron.”
