Veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes has delivered a heartbreaking update on the devastating health battle that has left him unable to stand without help, admitting he fears television bosses no longer want to work with him.
The 66-year-old presenter revealed that after years of relentless pain and multiple surgeries, his condition has deteriorated to the point where he now relies on a wheelchair and requires carers throughout the day.

Eamonn first began experiencing severe health problems in 2021, when sudden back pain dramatically changed his life. What initially appeared to be a manageable issue soon escalated after doctors discovered a dislocated pelvis, which eventually led to three slipped discs.
Since then, the long-time TV star has endured a gruelling series of setbacks. While recovering from surgery, he suffered a fall down the stairs at his home in Weybridge that left him with a broken shoulder, further complicating his already fragile condition.
A later spine and neck operation in 2023 failed to provide the relief he had hoped for, leaving him battling chronic pain that continues to affect his mobility and daily life.
Speaking candidly on the Session 7 podcast, Eamonn described just how difficult the past two years have been.

He explained that living with the condition has been “horrendous,” revealing that he is now confined to a wheelchair and cannot even stand up from his chair without assistance.
“I’m sick. I’m in a wheelchair. That’s been horrendous to deal with for two years,” he said, before admitting that although he may appear fine when sitting down, the reality is very different.
“Certainly I don’t think TV wants to know you when… there’s nothing wrong with you sitting here talking, but I can’t get up,” he continued.
The broadcaster went on to explain that carers now assist him throughout the day because he cannot physically lift himself out of his chair.
“I need help getting out of this chair. I have to have carers throughout the day, but once I’m sitting down, I can do everything,” he said.
Despite his struggles, Eamonn reflected philosophically on the experience, saying the ordeal had reminded him how important health truly is.
“Through good days and bad days, you realise your health really is your wealth,” he shared.
The presenter also spoke about the challenges disabled people face in everyday situations, noting that society often struggles to accommodate those with mobility issues.
He gave the example of visiting the cinema, where he says wheelchair users are often given limited options for seating.
According to Eamonn, he is usually offered only two choices: the very front row or the very back of the theatre.
He admitted he finds it frustrating that venues cannot provide more accessible options.
The emotional update comes amid significant changes in his personal life.
Eamonn and fellow television presenter Ruth Langsford announced their split in May 2024 after 27 years together.
Ruth had previously spoken about the strain his chronic health problems placed on their relationship, admitting that caring for someone constantly can take an emotional toll.
She said that when someone is severely incapacitated, it becomes difficult to be a caregiver all the time, acknowledging that the situation had been challenging for both of them.
Since their separation, Eamonn has moved on and is now in a relationship with marriage counsellor Katie Alexander, 43.
The couple first went public with their romance in September 2024 after being spotted together on holiday in Ibiza.
Despite the ongoing pain and life-changing health struggles, Eamonn continues to speak openly about his experience, offering a rare glimpse into the reality of living with chronic illness while in the public eye.
