“I Don’t Even Know If There’s a Cure…” — Eamonn Holmes Breaks Silence on His ‘Terrible’ Health Battle as Paralysis, Pain and Uncertainty Take Over His Life

Eamonn Holmes has delivered a heartbreaking update on his ongoing health struggles, admitting he no longer knows whether doctors will ever find a cure for the condition that has dramatically changed his life.

The 66-year-old broadcaster has been battling severe mobility issues since 2021, when he suffered a dislocated pelvis and three slipped discs — injuries that led to multiple spinal surgeries over the following years. Despite repeated operations, his condition has worsened, leaving him largely immobile and reliant on a wheelchair and carers for everyday tasks.

Speaking candidly about his situation, Eamonn said he has been living with what he described as a “back and paralysis problem” for three years. He admitted, “Well obviously I’ve been better… it’s terrible to come to terms with. The thing is nobody seems to know what the problem is, so I just stick with it and hopefully they’ll find a cure one day.”

The veteran presenter revealed that pain and limited mobility are now a daily reality. He explained that paralysis comes first, followed by the struggle to move and then constant pain, adding that the condition has affected him “in so many ways.”

Despite his physical challenges, Eamonn showed determination as he recently appeared at a live Q&A event at London’s Hippodrome Casino. Using a walking aid to reach the stage, he spoke warmly about continuing his role at GB News, saying he still finds joy in working and engaging with audiences.

He shared, “The lovely thing about GB News is you can sit down and talk… I love work. It’s not like a day’s work like my father or my brothers — they work. My hands haven’t done a day’s work in my life.” Reflecting on his career, he added that doing what you love means “you’ll never work a day in your life.”

Eamonn also addressed the current This Morning presenting team, praising Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard for their performance, insisting he doesn’t see them doing anything wrong.

But it was his brutally honest recollection of past celebrity interviews that added a surprising twist to the evening. He singled out Mariah Carey as the most difficult guest he has ever encountered, bluntly stating, “She’s always a complete pain… I wouldn’t care less if I never saw her again.”

Recalling one particularly chaotic encounter, Eamonn said the singer arrived four hours late and chose to lie down instead of starting the interview. Frustrated, he lay down beside her in protest before ultimately walking out, declaring he would cancel the interview if she didn’t show up on time.

The moment, he admitted, wouldn’t happen today — but it perfectly captured the no-nonsense attitude that has defined his decades-long career.

Now, however, the focus has shifted from headline-making interviews to a deeply personal battle — one that remains unresolved, uncertain, and, as Eamonn himself admits, still without answers.
