Jeff Brazier looked every inch the proud new grandfather as he shared an emotional tribute to his first grandchild after son Freddy Brazier welcomed a baby girl with ex-girlfriend Holly Swinburn.
Freddy, 21, and Holly, 22, announced the arrival of their daughter this week, with the newborn’s name carrying an especially poignant meaning for the Brazier family. The couple chose the name Isla Jade Brazier, with her middle name serving as a touching tribute to Freddy’s late mother, Jade Goody.
Jeff marked the moment by posting a heartfelt collection of family photos on Instagram, giving followers a glimpse of the newest addition being welcomed into the family. One sweet image showed Jeff smiling down lovingly at baby Isla as he cradled her in his arms, while another captured new dad Freddy holding his daughter as proud uncle Bobby Brazier gazed at the newborn with affection.
In his emotional message, Jeff wrote: “Dear Isla Jade, you have no idea how deeply loved you are.” He went on to say that there are “so many good people standing behind you, and a very special angel watching over you,” before revealing the significance of her middle name. Jeff said, “Mummy and Daddy gave you her name, and were going to tell you all about her,” confirming that Isla’s name was chosen in honour of Jade.
The TV presenter also thanked Freddy and Holly for bringing such joy into the family, writing that baby Isla already felt like “the greatest gift.” He added: “I will be forever grateful to Mummy and Daddy for filling my heart and bringing such joy into our lives. Thank you, Holly and Freddy, with all my heart. Holding you is pure peace.”
Jeff ended the tribute with a playful sign-off that melted hearts, writing: “All my love, Grandad (Though you’re welcome to call me something a bit cooler when you’re older!).”
Among the photos was one lighter moment that fans adored, showing Jeff fast asleep in a chair while still holding little Isla in his arms. Other pictures featured Bobby meeting his niece for the first time, looking completely smitten, as well as a full family snap of Jeff posing proudly beside Freddy, Holly, Bobby and baby Isla.
The post was quickly flooded with messages of support and congratulations from famous friends. Dianne Buswell, who has just welcomed her own first child with Joe Sugg, wrote: “Congratulations to you all she will be so so loved.” Kate Lawler also shared her joy, commenting: “Ah Jeff beautiful news congratulations to you all.” Josie Gibson, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Kelly Brook were among the other stars sending love to the family.
Freddy and Holly first revealed Isla’s arrival in a black-and-white hospital photo shared to Holly’s Instagram Stories, showing the former couple in bed with their baby daughter just after the birth. Freddy looked overjoyed in the picture as Holly held their newborn close.
Before Isla’s birth, Freddy had already spoken openly about why he wanted to honour his late mother in his daughter’s name. He said: “We are calling her Isla Jade. I think it’s lovely to incorporate the name Jade into her name as a middle name as I am sure there will be part of my mother in Isla.”
He also explained why he did not want Jade to be the baby’s first name, saying: “Calling the baby Jade as the first name felt like too much expectation on the baby… I don’t want to put any pressure on her.”
The emotional arrival of baby Isla comes with even more poignancy given Jade Goody’s tragic story. The former Big Brother star died in March 2009 at the age of 27 after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, leaving behind sons Bobby and Freddy, who were just five and four at the time.
Now, more than 17 years later, Jade’s memory is living on through a new generation — and for the Brazier family, baby Isla Jade already feels like a beautiful new chapter shaped by love, loss and legacy.
