Keith Duffy’s Coronation Street return ‘sealed’ 15 years after quitting ITV soap

Coronation Street viewers are convinced the soap has teased Keith Duffy’s comeback more than a decade after he departed.

The Boyzone star arrived on the ITV soap in 2002, taking on the role of Irish heartthrob Ciaran McCarthy. Keith stayed on the Street until 2005, before returning from 2010 to 2011.

Yet Keith, who rose to prominence in Boyzone with Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch and the late Stephen Gately in 1993, departed Coronation Street in 2005 to spend more time with his family in Ireland, reports the Daily Star.

He made a comeback five years on and exited once more the subsequent year to prioritise family and other projects, with his character leaving in 2011. Yet, in scenes on the cobbles this week, fans reckon the soap has hinted at Keith’s potential return.

In a moment behind the Rovers, Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) quipped about Ben (Aaron McCusker) being fond of Boyzone during his childhood. “If I remember correctly you liked the other lot. Boyzone,” Maggie remarked, prompting Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) to chuckle.

In a formal setting, several individuals are gathered around a dining table, engaged in a conversation. The man standing near the table holds a newspaper, while another man in the background appears to be attentively listening. A woman seated at the table looks toward the man with the newspaper. The room is furnished with a window adorned with curtains, a picture frame on the wall, and a lamp providing illumination.

Fans think the soap dropped a ‘clue’ about Keith’s return

A sheepish Ben responded: “Thanks for that Ma!” On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer pondered: “What would happen in Coronation Street if Peter Barlow returned and his ex navy friend Ciaran played by Keith Duffy(Boyzone) returned to visit him? Ben quoted Boyzone last night in the pub.”

Another fan speculated: “Maybe it’s foreshadowing.” A third gushed: “Bring Keith Duffy back ! He is gorgeous x.” Sharing the enthusiasm, someone else remarked: “That would be exciting.”

Meanwhile, Keith spoke about a potential Coronation Street comeback during an appearance on Loose Women earlier this year. When quizzed about his character’s whereabouts, Keith explained: “He’s in the Caribbean making food on a ship. He went off the cobbles in a little black taxi and he’s in the Caribbean somewhere…”

Keith went on to reveal: “He could come back. I don’t think he [Brian McFadden] would give me enough time off. Boyzone were supposed to come back and do a 40 date tour. Brian wouldn’t have it, we had to do two nights instead. He wouldn’t let me go. We have contacts signed with each other.”

Brian then joked: “I have a prenup on him, just in case he decides to run off!”
