Dylan Dreyer has shared a hopeful and emotional update on her young son’s health — revealing that six-year-old Calvin is finally back to feeling like himself after being diagnosed with celiac disease.

The Today co-host and NBC News meteorologist, 41, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE at the American Century Championship golf tournament in South Lake Tahoe, where she opened up about how dramatically Calvin’s life has improved since cutting gluten from his diet.

“Since the diagnosis, he has no more pains, no more headaches, no more stomach aches,” Dylan said. “He’s just like a regular kid.”

Dylan first revealed her son’s condition in May, after a terrifying health scare that saw Calvin rushed to the emergency room with stomach pain, rashes, headaches and even hair loss. Doctors later discovered he had developed a stomach ulcer, and further testing confirmed the real cause — celiac disease.

Although the diagnosis was life-altering, Dylan admitted it was also a relief.

“We were really worried at first. You start Googling and thinking the worst,” she explained. “So when we found out it was celiac, I thought, ‘Okay, this is an inconvenience. It’s a life change. But we can manage it.’”

Now, Calvin follows a strict gluten-free diet — and so does the rest of the family.

Dylan, who shares Calvin with husband Brian Fichera, along with sons Rusty, 19 months, and Oliver, 2½, said she often goes to extreme lengths behind the scenes to keep her eldest feeling normal.

“I packed and cooked so much food for my mother-in-law to take when Calvin went to stay with his grandparents,” she revealed. “Different breakfasts, lunches and dinners. It’s a pain for me — but it’s not a pain for him. He has no idea what I do to make his life feel totally normal.”

The  TV star said she was overwhelmed by the response after sharing Calvin’s story publicly.

“Holy cow — the feedback was incredible,” she said. “People were thanking me because no one talks about this. But when you live with it, it really is a big deal.”

She also highlighted how difficult everyday moments can be for families dealing with celiac disease — from finding food at airports to popping out for a simple slice of pizza.

“I want every restaurant to have gluten-free options,” she said passionately.

Despite the challenges, Dylan made one thing clear: she will always adapt to protect her son.

“It’s my job as his mom,” she said simply.

And while Calvin is thriving now, Dylan added with a smile that when he grows up and decides to eat pizza or drink beer at college — “that’s on him.”
