David Campbell has shared an update on Magda Szubanski following her shock cancer diagnosis.
âMagda is really receiving everyoneâs goodwill,â he told The Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday.
âI think thatâs the thing thatâs been keeping her going.
âCertainly, sheâs been getting it from our family, but also from the nation.â
Szubanski is close to Campbell and his wife, Lisa Hewitt, and is godmother to their 10-year-old daughter, Betty.
The singer revealed he has taken a direct and age-appropriate approach when discussing Magdaâs illness with his children.

âBettyâs nearly 11. I think that if she was much younger, itâd be much harder,â he said.
âBut what we just said was what Magda told everybody: Sheâs not well, but she is surrounded by the most incredible doctors, particularly in Melbourne.â
Lisa and David have also shared insight into how Szubanski has relied on humour and connection during treatment, describing her as a constant source of light despite her health challenges.
âShe talked about the fact that having that outpouring of emotion, and the support that sheâs felt, has been instrumental in her getting through everything,â Lisa said on Stellarâs podcast Something to Talk About.
âI canât speak for her own personal health, but sheâs an incredible person, and we are so fortunate to have her in our lives.â
Campbell added that laughter remains central to their friendship, even in the face of serious illness.
âShe laughs at herself. And she made us laugh at the cancer with her,â he said.
âAnd they say laughter is the best medicine. Itâs kind of true. It does make people feel better.â

It comes after Magda provided fans with an update following her shock stage 4 cancer diagnosis in May
In May, Magda announced on social media that she was battling a rare form of cancer known as Mantle Cell Lymphoma.
She appeared on camera with a shaved head after beginning her treatment to fight the disease.
âHello my lovelies. So, the head is shaved in anticipation of it all falling out in a couple of weeks because I have just been diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive, very serious lymphoma,â she began.
âIt is one of the nasty ones, unfortunately. The good thing is Iâm surrounded by beautiful friends, family and an incredible medical support team.
âHonestly, we have the best in the world here in Australia, particularly in Melbourne. I feel very fortunate.
âItâs pretty confronting. It is full on. But new treatments keep coming down the pipeline all the time.â
Magda said she has started a treatment called the Nordic protocol, which treats MCL by shrinking the tumours with a combination of drugs administered in five phases.
